Diederick's paintings often show the everyday workings of the Cape Malay peoples

set in erstwhile Western Cape rural or urban scenes.

While simple in form and uncomplicated in content, his paintings are filled with expression.

This gardener, although seemingly a little less than enthusiastic,

is accepting of his lot, and plods on to the next task of his endless day.
